Boston came through last night, I like the matchup tonight.

Boston ML +107

Pitching
TBH I didn't have a lot of faith in Chris Sale (BOS) early in the season. He started out with a double digit ERA and has been slowly working it down over the last several weeks. He is doing better. But, on the other side, Musgrove (SDP) is still trying to find his stride. He's only have 4 starts so far.

Sale: 3.55 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 4.5 K/BB.
Musgrove: 6.63 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 2.37 K/BB

Clearly the pitching edge is Boston tonight. I'd actually list Musgrove as the worst started for the Padres so far.

Batting
Boston is on fire the last couple games. Averaging 9 rpg over last 3. Padres averaging 2.7 rpg. Over hte last week......
BOS 114 WRC+, 0.345 w/OBA,
SDP 80 WRC_, 0.270 w/OBA

Boston is scoring some runs and I'll play with their trend.

Relief Pitching
Padres with a slight edge 1.07 WHIP, 2.65 ERA vs Boston 1.13 WHIP, 2.99 ERA.

I think Boston can extend thier win stream to 4 and push Padres to their 4 staight loss.

Soon I hope. We'd have some fun. I should come up in the fall so we can hunt deer. I think the season opens in September.
I’m not a big hunter, I only fish really, lame I know but I respect my friends land. Not a hunting zone. However we did make a fire once and it got out of control and we had to call the volunteer FD, which consists of a lot of family so that was awkward

All good. We'll just sit around a fire and get hammered on Pabst and shots.

Is anyone else suprised by how San Diego has just not shown up this year? I thought they'd be killer team with all the power they have at the plate.
  • They are dead-last in batting AVG 0.225.
  • Starting pitching is not great. 20th at 4.51
  • Relief pitching is 2nd in the league to Baltimore
I expected them to challenge the Dodgers all season for NL West.

Yup. Very overrated team right now anyway. Should not be a big favorite over anyone.

Cubs ML +110

Pitching:
Steele (CHC) vs Walker (PHI). Steele has been pitching exeptionally well so far this year except his last outing. He gave up 5 ER in 6 inning but 4 of those were in the 4th when he lost his control. He recovered nicely and finished out the next two innings realatively clean which seems to indicate it was a "one-off" event.

Walker (PHI) is up and down. You're never sure this year if he'll go 1 inning or 6. He's very unpredictable.

Steele: 1.03 WHIP, 3.13 K/BB, 3.26 ERA
Walker: 1.50 WHIP, 2.05 K/BB, 9.45 ERA

Cubs appear to have the edge on pitching

Batting:
Philly doesn't bat well against lefty's. 0.237 vs left and 0.271 vs right.
Cubs are batting slightly better than the Phillies over the last week and for the year. Last 7 days:
Cubs: 111 WRC+, 0.334 wOBA, 0.245 AVG
Phillies: 86 WRC+, 0.301 wOBA, 0.235 AVG

Slight edge Cubs.

Relief Pitching:
Pretty even in this category with Cubs having a small edge.
Cubs: 1.28 WHIP, 4.29 ERA
Phillies: 1.40 WHIP, 4.41 ERA

Misc:
Warning... Cubs have been on a skid of late 3-7 in last 10 but Philllies aren't much better at 5-5 and 1-5 in last 6. I hate playing on teams that are not trending up but I think with both teams records lately, the cubs are the better choice of two mediocre teams. Also, Steele is the #1 pitcher on Cubs so far while Walker is #6 on the Phillies. If Cubs are going to get a win, it is more likely to be with Steele on the mound.

GL Everyone

I'm trying to provide a little more detailed write up with my thoughts on at least one game each day. Let me know if you think its useful. It just a brain dump from me on the game and how I'm making decisions.

If you just want the picks to see.... I can do that too.
