Play on: Hawks -2

We are going to back the hotter team here and the Hawks. The Cavs were down by 20+ points a few times in their play-in game against the Nets before a late flurry made the final score respectable. Cleveland has struggled against the league's better teams of late with losses to the Nets (twice), a home loss to Philly, an “L” at Atlanta, and two home losses to Dallas and Chicago.

That’s 6 losses in their last 10 games against other playoff teams. Atlanta can say the exact opposite as they’ve played extremely well down the stretch of the regular season with an 8-2 SU record in their last 10 games. In that 10-game stretch they have quality wins over Charlotte, the Nets, Cavs and Warriors. Prior to the All-Star break the Cavs were the 7th best defensive efficiency unit in the NBA allowing 1.097-points per possession.

Since the break they rank 24th in the NBA allowing 1.173PPP, which is not a good sign facing a Hawks team that is 3rd in the NBA in offensive efficiency since the Break at 1.201PPP. Atlanta hasn’t been good defensively all season long but in their last five games they rank 11th in the league in DEFF. Based on how these teams are trending we have to back Atlanta minus the short number here.

Jack’s Free Pick Friday:
Tigers/Royals UNDER 8.5

Two of the worst offenses in the American League square off tonight when the Detroit Tigers resume their series with the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers are hitting .223 and scoring 3.6 runs per game this season while the Royals are hitting .213 and scoring 3.5 runs per game.

The key here is that the forecast is going to help us cash this UNDER ticket. There will be 14 MPH winds blowing in from left center at Kauffman Stadium tonight. These two starters are both good enough to hold these offenses in check given the wind aid.

Brad Keller is 4-3 with a 3.65 ERA in eight career starts against Detroit with the UNDER going 7-1 in those eight starts. Tarik Skubal is 1-2 with a 4.29 ERA and 0.857 WHIP in four career starts against Kansas City with the UNDER going 3-1 in those four starts.

Keller is 25-9 UNDER in his career against division opponents. The UNDER is 17-7-1 in Tigers last 25 games overall. The UNDER is 42-18-2 in Royals last 62 games vs. a left-handed starter. The UNDER is 21-7-1 in the last 29 meetings. Bet the UNDER in this game Friday.

MLB, 04/15 9:42 PM Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners
PICK: Seattle Mariners 1.5 for 2 Units

It's Seattle's home opener and that always means a bit more to the players. There will be a sellout (it's Jackie Robinson Day on Friday and I believe every player in the majors will be wearing No. 42). Seattle was 46-35 at home last year and this season's club looks much better on paper.

M's lefty Marco Gonzales didn't look good in his season debut at Minnesota but went 9-1 after the All-Star Break with a 2.70 ERA last year so I'll call that a hiccup. Houston's Jake Odorizzi was 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA in three starts at Seattle in 2021. Runline at -160. Probably it for me today MLB-wise barring a star sitting out, pitching change, etc.

My selection is on Genoa +1.5 goals over AC Milan at 3 pm et on Friday.

AC Milan has incredibly gone undefeated in its last 12 matches, not allowing a single goal over its last six to sit atop the Serie A table. While Friday's home match against lowly Genoa looks like a layup, I believe it will end up being closer than most expect. Note that Genoa has at least done a good job of keeping opponents in check (for the most part). It did allow four goals in a loss to Lazio last time out but prior to that it had yielded just three goals in its last nine matches overall.

I expect to see it employ a frustrating brand of football against a superior AC Milan side here as well as it looks to gain something from this match in an effort to pull closer to 17th-placed Cagliari (and out of its current relegation position). With Inter Milan and Napoli hot on its heels, AC Milan can certainly use the three points in this contest and while it should be able to accomplish that task, I don't expect Genoa to go away quietly. Take Genoa +1.5 goals.
