Couple of points here:

- Big difference in suing Seacrest solely and including him as a named defendant in a suit against the company he endorses. Lots of famous people have been tossed in as defendants of suits against their employer/whoever paid the product endorsement. It’s procedural and more a move to “force” settlement as the school of thought is the celebrity doesn’t want bad publicity and pressures the company to settle.

- It’s California courts - anything goes. Again, suit will inevitably be moved to class action as all you need is like 3 people to sign on and say they lost money “gambling” online who live in the state. Inevitably defendants will seek to move to federal court and will see that granted. But in the mean time - you’re going to have some attorney reminding defendants they have nothing better to do than continue filing things and making the defense file answers - at a significant expense. Plaintiffs attorney will try to extort a settlement that cost less than a defense (and probably win it). This isn’t a major gambling operator or public company - it’s a fringe app who deals in the grey area of the law. They will settle for say a million or less - and inevitability someone else will try this in the future if the app continues to stay around. But for now - with this one pending, no one else will file until it’s settled - otherwise they will all get consolidated into a single suit and be too easy to defend.
