Country singer Toby Keith died Monday at the age of 62 after a battle with stomach cancer.

“Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time,” a statement posted to Keith’s website and social media said.

Elaine Schock, who has been Keith’s publicist since 2003, confirmed his death to CNN. He leaves behind his wife, Tricia, and three children, Shelley, Krystal and Stelen, his publicist told CNN. His mother and two siblings survive him.

Keith revealed his stomach cancer diagnosis in 2022.

“I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax,” he said in a statement at the time. “I am looking forward to spending time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later.”

He continued performing, recently playing shows in Las Vegas.

Stomach cancer is not an easy one to treat - anytime you have pancreatic/liver/stomach it’s not a great thing. All very tightly packed organs - all susceptible to spread among the 3 and difficult to detect until you know there’s a problem.

These commonly make their appearance between 55-70 and it’s just a tough thing to fight and to recover from once you’ve reached that age.

Makes me wonder if he chewed tobacco or had some hereditary issue. As a country singer I'm wondering if he was a user.

I know of people who've had stomach cancer from chewing tobacco. Not sure what of all the things that will cause it though.

I’m so far in technology, but when it comes to medical, it seems we are still so far behind

or they have cures from many things, and like you suggested genie they won’t reveal them
I used to feel very strong about this being the truth, it still could be. My oldest nephew got his phd in Mico Biology all his work has been in Cancer Research. He just finished opening a new lab at Yale Medical and that's all they will do. He was at the Salk Insitute in San Diago CA before getting the job at Yale. They had built a lab at Salk like what they wanted at Yale and that's why they wanted him at Yale. Very proud of him.

Yea - don’t see TS doing any “tributes” anytime soon.

Dont know how much truth there is to TK “discovering” her - but he did invest heavily in Big Machine at the start and helped fund her prior label - the one she had a pretty contentious relationship with once it became clear she was a star.

Artist routinely sign shitty deals to start - after all - labels ARE taking on the risk and spending money getting artist on the radio and building them up. A lot of talented people out there - not all of them have records to sell and a publicity machine hyping them. You take the crap deal - get big and then reap rewards.
