Prime Tyson V Prime The Greatest.

Who wins?

My initial thought off the bat is Ali.

Was there a better heavyweight ever at taking a punch?

Plus he was fast and slick.

That being said, Prime Mike was a fukkin animal and Ali did take an L to Frazier(Philly boy haha).

So who would win in this hypothetical encounter?

Let the controversy begin!

Ali

Prime Tyson is a lot like Prime Liston I think - we all know how that turned out.

Power will win if it can connect solidly - but eventually a power puncher wears out or leaves themselves open - takes one good punch and their on the canvas. Ali was the greatest that ever lived. Tyson was the best of the last great group of fighters.

The thing that makes this so intriguing for me is Frazier.

Frazier consistently connected with a devastating left hook against Ali and dropped him.

Tyson, overall, was a much more devastating puncher than Frazier.

Plus he was fast too.

I don't think this is as easy as some think.

One of the best experiences of my life was taking my dad to see When We Were Kings when they were playing it in the theater for a week after Ali died

He loved it. I had seen it multiple times prior and since.

He was a huge Ali guy and saw him live when he fought in Texas a couple of times at the Astrodome

Ali buti both overrated.
Ali fought, and beat, almost every prime heavyweight in the best heavyweight era of all-time

I don’t think many arguments could be made that Ali was overrated

Plus he was on the shelf for three prime years so we didn’t quite see what he could have been as he wasn’t the same fighter (still very, very good) when he came back

He did fight in that era Jay, you're right.

But would anyone be really shocked if Tyson won this encounter? Especially given how devastating he was in his prime?

Still the youngest heavyweight Champ ever.

Larry Holmes was a better fighter than Ali. People belive hyped up bullshit back in the day just like they do now.

Excellent point

Mike would eventually pin Ali in the corner and then it's over

Too many ppl remember the post Robin Givens Tyson and not the prime

Did you ever see that interview with Mike and her after they got together

It's as if she had him high or drugged up

He was not the same from that point on

Boxing fans have had this debate seemingly forever and my answer is always the same which is Muhammed Ali. He's the better all around boxer than Mike Tyson who is the better puncher. Ali would make Tyson miss and just outbox him I think. We'll never know of course but I think true boxing fans can make a convincing argument for either guy but for me I'm sticking with Ali.

Mike Tyson couldn’t beat prime 6’2” and up heavyweights. Lennox Lewis and Holyfield outboxed him. Easy answer. Ali would give Tyson a combination of both. Lots of jabs and a good chin. Game over.
But Ali lost to Frazier and Norton, and Tyson was far more devastating than either.
