You know, that's not really true unless we broaden our definition of action.

People bet for many, many different reasons. It's always been that way (well, more so after the 1980s), and is as true as ever today.

For just one example there are many who love the thrill of the hunt. They give a damn about the result. For them, the action is in the capping and then they put the bets in and never experience the game. They set it and forget it.

For them, the action is capping.

There is so much more than the money, the wins, the losses when it comes to motivation. @jjgold you focus too much on the negative, and even mostly stereotypes, which aren't necessarily untrue.

I suggest highlighting the fewer positive and remember that for many, but not all, the problem gambling that leads to losses can be solved by teaching the better to win while still providing the cautionary tale of bad behaviors.
