Wow. What a way to end the game.
Bat clearly hit the glove.
Tank if you’re bored and want to see if this is correct - I was following the game on espn.com because I had Phils in your contest - bottom 10 with guys on first and second no outs it said the third guy up in the inning was intentionally walked to load the bases

Was this right? Why the heck would anyone intentionally walk a batter to put the winning run 90 feet away ?

Damn good question. Should they have loaded the bases?
I think NO and Chat GPT agrees.

I posed the situation and asked if it was wise to walk the batter:
Generally, no. While loading the bases gives the defense more force-out options, the data shows it increases the offense’s scoring probability. Unless the matchup is extremely favorable or the batter is a known double-play candidate, it's usually better to avoid loading the bases.

Kepler hasn't been great at the plate so I would have pitched to him and not intentially walked him.
Maybe they thought Stott (subbed out and Sosa came in) would be a better double play candidate than Kepler.

Usually Boston is a huge follow the stats team so I'm surprised their coaches made this call.

Yeah I mean they had a force at every base but home

If they really did this it’s crazy. ESPN game tracker said “intentional walk” though for sure loading the bases right before the catcher interference
