We've got a couple of family gatherings coming up over the next month. I usually order a bunch of steaks from Omaha Steaks or Kansas City steaks to fee everyone for one of the big meals. I know they are usually kind of pricey but the steaks are always good.

The local Grocery store steaks are not so great and the last time we went to the meat market the steaks were not very good.

What's your opinion of these places? Is there a better one to use?
Hoping to find a better online steak store.

Kidding! I've seen these trucks advertised around here, but I've done my research. Apparently the steaks are really a horrible quality and really small after you cook them. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is
I've heard they are like 1/4" thick and small and tough as hell. I'll pass.
If I served those, my family would never visit again.

I'm looking at getting this package from Omaha Steaks if no one comes up with a better suggestion on a place to buy steaks.

Good variety. Hopefully, not everyone will want a Filet Mignons.

I've never had Ribeye Crown Steaks. They say its the best part of the Ribeye but I'm curious.

They used to sell these on HSN. It used to be a good deal because they used to throw in some freebies. I'd look around at other places that sell them. Maybe even Costco or Sam's club? Now that I think about it, you could probably get good quality cheaper meat from there as well

Question Tank

Around here there are some scattered privately owned butchers & meat markets where you can buy bulk much cheaper than stores

Surely you guys have those in Texas ???
There are quite a few in our area. Last time we used one though, we got really poor quality and the prices were pretty damn high. Higher than online.

I don't want to get burned again by a butcher taking advantage of us. I know I'll get quality from Omaha or Kansas City steaks.

We've had Sam Club steaks. Not bad for the price but, not as tender as the ones online.
Does anyone ever use online steak buying places? I was really hoping someone know of another one besides the two I've used and could give a review.

Order steaks - no.

Local butcher who processes beef on site about a mile up the road from us.

Another I like who does pork/chicken also a few miles away. Stopped in one day and found they sell scrapple - wife was ready to try making it until I explained what it was.

Got to go locally sourced for beef where available. Some grocery stores are ok - but majority is just absolute crap packed and shipped from a DC by a huge producer.

I need to find a better local butcher. Someone I can trust.
Its like finding a mechanic. Not sure who you can trust until you use them a few times.

I’ve actually had Omaha Steaks before (gifts from vendors) - not horrible- but nothing special either to me.

They were good cuts - but the price for what a local meat shop would charge is excessive I’m sure. Even if I didn’t live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corn and cows - I’d be able to find a farmers market type place with a meat stand. Just about any city of size I’ve been in has one - inconvenient for just a couple, but if buying more than say 6-8 steaks it’s the way to go if nothing local to you.
