I don’t get the fascination with owning the ball.
I mean let’s say it does bring $250k at auction - auction house takes 20-25% - taxes nav another 36% at least. Fan gets $100-125k max. Now not bad - but again to me not “life changing”.
What do you do with it once you buy it ? Cut it into a million pieces and put it in baseball cards ? Loan to Cooperstown ?
It’s not like someone is going to pay admission to look at it. Personally I’d tell Ohtani if he wants it - 100k, meet and greet and season tickets for life. Club can afford to give tickets - and getting to hand it over in person is a one in a lifetime thing.
What is Bonds record breaker worth these days - probably a 1/5 of what it was at peak market - ditto McGwire’s. What happens if someone else goes 50/50 ? I don’t see 60/60 being possible - but never know.
