Iran told the US through back-channels where it was going to bomb US bases and how many missiles would be used so that no lives were lost.

Iran wanted to make sure the US knew it was coming and would be a "minor" event. Now, Iran can tell their own people, "Look we hit back at the evil US". And by warning the US, they are hoping the US doesn't retaliate.

You're right with one exception- Isreal.

Isreal is, and always will be, a protectorate of the US. And that's where, despite all the numbers & policies & political BS lining up just fine, stupid religion gets in the way.
