Agree with this 100%. Same age as you, and yes it’s insane how much kicking has improved. When we were kids 1/2 the guys kicked barefoot, and anything over 35 yards was basically a prayer. Cowboys kicker made one from 66 last night that was waved off like it was nothing.

I grew up my entire childhood with the legend of Tom Dempsey and his 63 yard field goal with only half a foot.

I think they changed the rules this year with the balls. The teams can kick their own balls that can be worked in during the week.

Over the years the makers must have made the balls to be able to travel further.

30 years ago in college football a 50 yarder at the end of games was a slightly better option than a Hail Mary. Nowadays just about every program has a kicker that can make it from 55 yards out. Didnt used to be the case.

Punters, similar deal. There used to be a thing called 'outkicking the coverage'. No such thing anymore.
These fukkers can kick it 55 yards beyond the line of scrimmage and it will be a fair caught.
In college as well.
