This could be true. Is it due to great defenses in BIG 10 or due to piss poor offenses....
The highest rated team in BIG10 in YPG is Ohio State (407 ypg) and they are 47th out of 130 teams.

Terrible offenses. Even from a style perspective, it’s much easier to defend. Big 10 teams line up and run the ball and they are mostly slow tempo teams. They also have nowhere near the skill players of the other conferences.
