Ya it's just a week too late this year. I get the Monday deal w ESPN but it needs to be the Monday BEFORE divisional playoffs.

They were an after thought this year going up versus a slate of NBA/ NHL, a day off for kids and Trumps inauguration.

Also, purest CFB devotees didn't like the fact the 2 participants wouldn't have even qualified in years past. This brings into question the purpose of a conference champion game (too risky to play, if you lose you youre out) and whether or not ND should be forced to join a conference.
Good points. I was thinking that if they started it earlier, it would help. But then thought about the west coast. Since I live in the east it's easy to forget about that 3-hour difference.

Some things to remember when we talk about third lowest game.

First, it was the most watched game of the season. It was the most watched non-NFL sporting event over the past year.

While there was a 12% drop from last year's Natty, and the third lowest audience in the 11 CFP games, know that all 3 of those low rated games occurred in the past five years.

Least viewed title games:

2023 Georiga beats TCU 65-7 (17.2 million).
2021 Bama beats Ohio St 52-24 (18.7 million)
2025 Ohio St beats ND 34-23 (22.1 million)

The most watched college football game in the CFP era was in 2015 when Ohio St beat Oregon 42-20 with 33.9 million. That was the first title game of the CFP.

Now let's talk this year's playoffs:

Average viewers by round:

1st round: 10.6 million
2nd (quarterfinals): 16.9 million
3rd (semis): 19.2 million (this is a 17% decline from last year).

Last year the semis were on Jan 1st and Michigan beating Bama OT had 27.7 million, and was more than Michigan's title game audience that year.

Back to this year, those CFP games represented 9 of the 10 most viewed games this season.

The 1 game in the mix that wasn't the CFP was Georgia's over Texas in OT in the SEC championship game. That game drew 16.6 million.
