College Football Bowl Picks for Tuesday: Scoreboard to Light Up in Independence Bowl
We got the 3-0 Bowl Sweep on Saturday, making us 34-26 across All Sports with our write-ups including 20-12 in College Football. We now have a play on Coastal Carolina vs. Louisiana Tech Tuesday, with an early kick-off at 2:00pm ET.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
Tuesday, December 30th – 2:00pm ET
Although neither team has their starting quarterback in the Independence Bowl due to injuries, we still feel that this posted total seems light. Therefore, we are backing the Over when Coastal Carolina faces Louisiana Tech in Shreveport.
La Tech offense Still Fine with Kukuk
There was doubt that Louisiana Tech would become bowl-eligible when they were sitting at 5-5 and were down to their third string quarterback Trey Kukuk. However, he led the Bulldogs to two wins as the starter to reach this bowl in their home state while guiding them to 34 and 42 points respectively!
Granted, Kukuk was not much more than a game manager, but that was fine for a team that ranked 25th in the country in rushing at 196.5 yards per game. That ranking is validated by a similar 28th ranking in rushing on PFF, and the Bulldogs should have their way on the ground here against a Coastal Carolina team ranked 131st in raw rushing defense and 123rd in Tackling per PFF.
In fact, the Chanticleers allowed at least 45 points in each of their last three games, all losses. Thus, we can easily see Louisiana Tech getting into the mid-30s (at least) here.
Chants Also Facing Struggling Defense
Those last three losses dropped Coastal to 6-6, with starting quarterback Samari Collier missing the last two with a knee injury and expected to be out here too. However, if we are correct about the Bulldogs reaching the 30s, it would mean that a score in the low 20s would be all the Chanticleers need to cash this Over.
Well, that seems feasible given the struggles of the Louisiana Tech defense late in the year. The Bulldogs allowed 28 points to a terrible Liberty offense and 30 points to Missouri State despite winning the last two games thanks to their offense bailing them out. They had tackling issues in both games while allowing a lot of Explosives to two teams that go not usually get many of them. Moreover, ranking 85th in Tackling for the whole season does not inspire confidence.
In the end, we think this game will mirror the final two Louisiana Tech games, with their offense putting up points with a powerful running game but their defense allowing too many Explosives to feel comfortable laying points. This has is betting on the Over, as we would not be surprised if these teams combine to approach 60 points.

Remember that we already have more bowl plays posted besides this one and will almost certainly add more, so make sure to keep checking the NCAAF Picks thread for additions.
