Andy Griffith show.
Based on the real town of Mt. Airy North Carolina.
Always wanted to take a road trip and see it for myself.
Heard nothings changed and it still looks the same as it did when Andy show was around.
It’s very much like it was in the 50s up there in Surry County - good and bad.
It’s Trump country for sure.
They do a Mayberry days festival yearly still I think. And lots of touristy places with Mayberry themes - Aunt Bee and such.
It’s funny - the lady who played Bee HATED Andy and Don Knott’s - felt they were both “hillbillies” and below her a sophisticated NY actress. But she wound up moving down about an hour South of Mt Airy and living there because she came to love NC.
It is beautiful country down there - drove by Pilot Mountain many times and in a way still want to move back. At the same time - it’s just a different world socially. Outside of Greensboro/Chalotye and Raleigh/Durham it’s not quite so “integrated”. And the religion bit gets old fast.
