Bennie “Chip” Woolley, who won the 2009 Kentucky Derby at 50-1 with Mine That Bird, is still putting up prices.
Since Canterbury opened, his record is as follows:

15starts, 4-1-1. Winners paid:

$12.80

$16.20

$20.60

$28.40

FYI.

I’m surprised he doesn’t get better horses. He’s proven he can win on the big stage. I think he might be a bit of a dick, so rich owners don’t want to listen to him. Just a theory.

FYI, Chip is an UGLY 2-37 since the action moved back to Arizona.

However, he had a pretty good Canterbury meet before that, so his barn needed a little time to cycle back to form.

It’s been about a month, so I am going with the historical data and sounding the alarm. Fire at will on his next 20 entries or so. The big prices are coming. Two entered tomorrow at Turf Paradise…..

Not sure how I missed this thread

loved the Mine That Bird story.

Remember that horrible call when the announcer basically missed the miracle run from behind by Mine That Bird in the Derby

I never understood wanting to be a
long shot in a race when you could find a better spot and be more competitive.
It was hard for me to even make that entry much less watch the race unless it served a real purpose.

Are you talking about in the Derby @str ??

I think if you qualify a horse for the Derby you almost always have to take a shot.

There have been so many great upset stories over the years.

Might be a once in a lifetime chance for some

Oh no. I totally agree with your statement. That's the only race where I would totally get it, in the Derby.
But with his typical everyday payouts, it seems he is in spots that could be softer .
