He was ok, I guess. But most of his success came with Cowher's guys. Once those guys left, so did Tomlin's success (in the post season)

The game passed him by. Only way to win today is to pair up a QB w an offensive coach that's willing to gamble a bit on 4th down and tells his D Coordinator to sell out for the +/- in possessions.

When he had a young Roethlisberger they were a contender, with an old Roethlisberger or a rotating cast of average QB's they weren't. Simple as that, give him a good QB and he'll have his team in the hunt.

amazing how a good QB can make any coach look good when you think about it. kind of similar to an all pro in NBA (lebron and jordan effect).

baseball is tougher cause of the 9 man lineup and starting pitchers can't start more than 1/5 of of the games generally anymore.

hockey kind of similar though guys like mcdavid and mckinnon are exceptions.

Good players make good coaches. We know that but he made his teams play hard unlike many coaches or should I say motivated them all the time good presence on the sideline.
