Did you see his speech?

He said this isn't basketball anymore, this is a business. 8 players entered the transfer portal after their final 4 run. He asked them if they liked playing at Miami and all said they did like it a lot but were leaving for the money.

I see this coach quitting kind of like Saban quit Bama.... The battlefield is changing and they didn't want to change with it.
A lot of the old timers see the game passing them by, Mack Brown, Saban, and others I’m sure hated coaching in the NIL era.

Schools will have to implement contracts and hire a GM like Stanford did with Luck to keep kids locked in for 4 years.
Will they be able to hold players to contracts that will keep them pinned in for four years? Is this legal?

Or would it be more like a contract where they get their NIL money quartered up and get yearly payments, so they have incentive to stay?

I have to believe it will develop into some kind of contract like they have in pro sports.
They have to do this to bring some kind of sanity to the teams.

As far as legal???? NIL money used to be illegal (e.g. Reggie Bush) so anything is possible.

I wonder if he told any of the young whipper snappers to get off his lawn on the way out the door?

The ironic thing is NIL bought him his Final Four appearance in 2023 and NIL is what is forcing him out of the game. His team quit on him this year and that's sad because he's a tremendous coach. Getting George Mason and Miami to the Final Four proves his coaching acumen but the game has changed and he's getting out before it gets worse.
