Held out a little hope maybe the Rangers would get in the Soto hunt

I thought the Seager contract was huge at the time. $325 million pales in comparison

15 years - he won’t last 5 with the Mets.

How long until they are hoping to dump the massive salary and eating 60 cents on the dollar to do so ?

Took a couple decades - but we are seeing Arod to the Rangers 2.0 unfold here. Team had a surprising run after just unloading a bunch of high priced aging talent - so decides it’s “smart” to invest a billion freaking dollars nearly into a younger player whose already showing signs of slowing down at 26. He will be good next year - not great - but expect the decline to start on the next 3 years.

Let's face it Cohen came in with all kinds of promises and hype and so far hadn't delivered shit in the form of winning so he needed to make a splash.

Boras knew this and he had Cohen by the balls and he squeezed as hard as he could. No way is Soto worth this kind of cash and 15 years (which will likely end up being 5 esp of mets do what mets do over those)

I did not read everything so I am asking this:

If he chooses to leave after 5yrs, is he still gonna get paid yearly till the end of the contract? till 15 yrs is over?

he has a chance to opt out but the mets can block that by adding 4 million dollars per year to the remaining 10 years. so its more like a team option than it is a player opt out

and no if he opts out the contract would end after just the 5 years and he would be a free agent again
