Everyone thinks they have it bad - until they see how bad others really have it.

Yea - it’s rough getting to that point in your life when your parents are no longer around - or are basically no longer the people your remember.

Dealt with both - neither is “easier”.

Going through the process of selling the old family home at the moment - complete pain in the ass. Probably held on longer than I should have just because of memories - I’ve came to accept I’ll never have a need for it and place is now just a house. Was hoping to just sell off the house and keep surrounding land (which has been in dad’s family for around 120 years or so I’m finding out. But has been such a pain in the ass and I’m nearing the point of just saying screw it - selling it all and just doing a place somewhere else.

Why it's pain in the ass? Is it because no one wants to buy the house alone? Do they want the house and the land?

Older house and economically depressed area - never ending stream of people “wanting to skip the bank and do a loan with me directly” - or simply being especially stupid with their offers.

To top it off - realtor is a complete waste of space. Does nothing and responds only sporadically.

It’s a weird area - house is hard to sell - but bare “recreational” land for hunting/trail riding sells quickly. Planned on keeping the majority of land and putting a cabin out there one day - but hard to turn down a half million too. Might be easier to just dump it all and walk away.

I think you're still not fully decided on what to do. To either take the deal or take the long-term plan to develop the land.

Do you have siblings, DJ? Normally this type of property decision will also matter from what they want to do with it.

Just one and they are out of the picture now.

Basically they signed over there share for my half of moms house a few years back. Wanted it so I said fine - 8 weeks later the for sale sign was out front. Only wanted what they felt they could turn into cash quickly (evidently the inheritance went quickly).

The ultimate irony of course is if I sell - I’d net probably more than 2x as much. But those are the breaks I guess.
