Any of those guys can step up, if Lebronda's not there, maybe Tatum does, if he's not burnt from the playoffs.

Or someone else. Not too hard to imagine a couple of those guys "taking over" late at this level.

Maybe James is just making the best of his last run at this.

Did he really “save” them or did he put them in a position to lose to begin with.

Taking over the game and out playing an inferior team isn’t something ANYONE on a stacked USA team shouldn’t be more than capable of doing.

And if you don’t insist on the ball going through your hands the entire game - allowing the opposition to put themselves in a position to win and load the team up with players and coaches who will defer to you and basically kiss your ass so you look like the star - you generally don’t find yourself in a position to have to take over and play Superman saving the day (which of course fits the ego needs perfectly).

To me it’s simple - this is why Lebron while being an exceptional talent is not in the conversation for “greatest” ever. Jordan wanted to play with the best around him, Magic wanted to elevate the talent around him to be the greatest team the world had seen, even Wilt who had quite the ego recognized it was a team sport. Lebron TALKS about team - but he’s still ME FIRST in everything he does - he wants the last shot - he wants credit for being the architect when they win and he wants players who will always be his sycophant.

I think many also need to recognize something we see in my office. It's one of the reasons I call for fading Team USA on the spread, even though that could get complicated now. We'd rather see them winning big now, to be overrated and over confident during the games.

Instead, they might be underrated and motivated to perform at the same time, something I mentioned early as the worst case scenario for Team USA spread faders.

Anyway, what we see in my office is the effect of FIBA rules in basketball and the continuity that some international teams will have, that Team USA simply won't.

This matters.
