Kentucky Derby week kicks off today with some Tuesday racing at Churchill. Most get excited about the big race on Saturday but I prefer the days prior, as well as the Derby day undercard. Usually a lot of opportunities to get some locals at big prices.
All the big names ship in, so we will see a lot of NY and California form get way over bet. It is sometimes profitable focusing on locals such as Greg Foley, Vickie Oliver, Jordan Blair etc. They will fly under the radar at big prices.

Getting a good price on a “local” trainer in race 4. Dale Romans, who should be in the Hall of Fame, is the second leading trainer in Churchill history. Assmussen passed him three years ago. Horse ran well at Turfway, then took a three-month layoff. Hoping that’s indicative of Romans pointing towards Churchill meet, and not an injury…
