Sandman it is!!!!!

#17
Sandman jockey Jose Ortiz won me by single biggest on-the-nose win wager I’ve ever placed

Roughly $1,600-1,800 or so on an 9/5 at Aquaduct

Was fifth most of the race before charging down the stretch to win by a length

What a rush! Thankfully I don’t do anything close to that anymore when it comes the horses. Just too unpredictable

This track is going to be like a demolition derby and less like a race. A lot of bumping around and wet track evens things out a bit.

I’d pick someone with double digit odds and hope at this point.
Always is, or has the potential to be that way, especially in the slop

I remember me and my girl the first year we were dating really got behind the Justify run to the triple crown with several winning wagers. Was fun. She’d never bet it before

And we had Maximum Security next year who got DQ which I’ll always think was a poor call. She was pissed they took him down. I was too obviously

A lot of good memories with my old man and mom betting the derby.

It’s one of those races you don’t overthink - pick a name, a number or owner/trainer - put down a few bucks and hope.

Wanna get ambitious - try an exotic and hope.

I never “bet” it - just pick some numbers or maybe a name and play it - usually chase all the “bet backs” I can.

No different this year - got $100 back from NYRA promo to bet the derby and doing bet back at DK - put in $130 yesterday to DK - currently at $130 in my account and $10 win bets on the next 3 races as well as a buck on every horse in the derby in an Oaks/Derby double, $5 additional on 6-9, 11,14,16-18, 21 Oaks/Derby Double and a $2 ticket still alive on the Oaks/Turf Classic/8,11,18. To me - that’s winning.

The $100 I’m splitting between my pick and the wife’s - $50 win on American Promise and $50 on Burnham Square.
