ok yes i was thinking about this too and it is true. but also what will make a bad gambler a bad gambler? whats driving them to gamble and not be analytical and so reckless? many factors
I think it's because we compartmentalize things so much. I've been thinking about this a lot lately how I think so differently late at night compared to how I think during my work day.
In regard to gambling, we can see this in the disconnect between the fun and rush we have gambling and the act of reloading our accounts. I don't know if it's a defense mechanism, but when we reload our accounts we aren't thinking of how much we have lost over the years. We are thinking about how this deposit will get us our fun and rush again. Our minds can only focus on one of these at a time.
It must be similar to a drug addict paying for his/her drug of choice. That person doesn't think of the downer they will get after the drug wears off. They are thinking of the rush the drug will bring them.
I wonder if the addiction response is the same in both cases.
