So just had some kid pounding on the door - wanting to clear my driveway. Looked about 12 and some methy looking dude sitting out in the truck with a little black and decker electric snow blower.

Didn’t even ask him how much - driveway is probably 200-250’ long and then about a 500 square pad at the end to park on. No way in hell that little electric blower and a kid shoveling would get it half done in under an hour with a solid 14” of snow. Worse - they would just be shoveling a bigger pile to one side and making a deeper mess for the plow guy to move when he finally gets here.

Still - made me think - JJ is missing out. Could be making some serious cash clearing driveways/sidewalks. Wife’s pissed I didn’t have him do it - even though I already have a landscaper lined up (they are just busy as they prioritize commercial lots first). Didn’t feel like dealing with the inevitable mess - or letting them know I keep cash laying around the house. Never trust those door to door laborers myself and moment they think you have loose cash laying around makes your house a target the moment you leave (jokes on them - I never leave the house).

I don’t blame you, it’s better to get a professional, especially with a big driveway like yours. If you have something small, I could see just letting them do it for cheap but it’s probably not even worth it.

You could’ve just Venmo’d or Zelled them the cash.

If it was a couple of neighborhood kids trying to earn some money, I’d probably say yes even if the work wasn’t perfect… Props to them for getting off the couch. But a sketchy-looking guy rolling up in a truck acting all twitchy? Hard pass.

Fortunately I’ve got Tanko for the dirty jobs… snow shoveling, picking up dog poop, you name it.

Thing is - cold constricts the vessels. Cold and lots of physical activity is hard on the heart, especially for someone who is not used to going at it on that level.

Dude came by this morning with the plow - took all of 30 seconds. 2 passes and done.

Damn I need to get a decent plow truck - figure 25k would get you something serviceable. $50 cash a driveway adds up quickly - and I could easily do it on the side before my regular job. Lots of demand too as the big guys are off chasing commercial jobs that are steadier.

Or be the first around here to price per season - say $500 a season and clearing within 24 hours anytime snowfall exceeds 3”. People think 3” is nothing - it’s not that often we get that much in a single event and could easily be only 2-3 times you need to go out a year - but one snowfall like we just had and everyone trying to find someone makes them appreciate having that contract.
