Or at least posting something that your employer didn’t agree with.
So it happened and has been making the rounds on all the music industry sites - 90s punk one hit wonders Green Jelly “fired” a member of the band yesterday after an offensive Ozzy Osbourne meme was posted by said member on the Green Jelly FB page.
Now the whole thing is a bit mis reported - starting with the labeling of the offender as a “member” of the band. By most standards - to be a member of the band, you regularly tour and play with them. Bill regularly considers people who just randomly show to social media post/invites up as “members” of Green Jelly - and that’s basically what this guy appears to be - a fan who helped manage the social media page and got a little too far out there. But instead of just walking away - moron decides to get into a pissing contest not only with Bill but Sharon Osborne herself - saying he was “targeted” and that Ozzy would have felt it was funny.
I don’t disagree Ozzy probably my would have had a chuckle about it himself - but he isn’t around to say so now is he ? Just a family who recently lost their patriarch and is still in a bit of shock. Last thing that really want to deal with is this stupidity. And then there’s Bill - whose band is getting attention 30+ years later for all the wrong reasons. Imagine working your ass off still dedicated to the ethos of punk and making music open and accessible while having built quite the resume in the industry only to have this moron muck it up with something so horribly in bad taste.
I realize those under 40 will have. I idea who Green Jelly (Jello) was - but for those of us alive in 1992 - this video was on constant rotation.
