Jay..I'm guessing you remember Gregg Jefferies. Had a solid career but was projected to be a HOF. Interesting interview with Mets ex-PR guy Jay Horwitz who always sounds like he has marbles in his mouth

Yeah me and a couple of buddies still talk about him every once in awhile

He was supposed to be the next switch-hitting Pete Rose. Had 20/10 vision, etc.

And was one of the big-time rookie cards you had to have several of back in the first baseball card boom late 80s early 90s

I actually looked him up earlier and was shocked his career was as long as hit was and that he had some real good, not great or HOF obviously, career stats

I used to have a ton of these. I still have an 88 donruss rack with Jeffries and Mark Grace on the front.

If you look at his 162 game avg only striking out 38 times, he's probably the best contact hitter since Tony Gwynn in the last 70 years

my dad was so excited when i got his card in a box. little did we know then how mass produced cards were at the time. he had such hype. he had good years with the cards.

brien taylor was around the same time for the yankees. another disappointment.
