So my buddy calls and says dude did you see the new Galaxy phone coming out?

I say no, what's up?

Says you gotta get it bro it's unreal. I say oh yeah? What's good about it?

He says the camera is probably the best camera ever put on a phone, the battery life is outrageous, and it's really fast.

I say bro, it's just a phone. When I need one, I'll get one.

He tells me what? You gotta keep up with the latest tech, you'll be obsolete if you don't.

I say bro, again, a phone is a phone. I'm not tech obsessed like you. My phone is fine ain't nothing wrong with it. I'm cool.

So he goes on for the next 10 minutes about how I gotta get this new phone.

Am I wrong here?

Do I or should I really change my phone every year?

How often do yous change phones?

for real.

fvck the tech

there are conspiracy theory rabbit holes galore to explore. we don't need to waste our time on comforts and convenience
What comfort is a new phone compared to a phone that's a year old?

What new convenience?

What does it do my phone doesn't?

Will it give me a blow job?

Will it make make me dinner?

Yeah, same here. I'm not into new gadgets. I used my phone till it gave up.
Because you're smart.

And not obsessed with stupid shit like a phone.

Want to get me excited? Talk about the newest cigar you had, the last great restaurant you went to and what you had to eat, or tell me about the last cool place you visited.

You know, real comfort and convenience shit.

Plus he has an android, which is the phone that that gays and bi’s use.
Bro, I'm android all the way.

IPhone. I respect it but it makes no sense to me.

How you gonna have a closed system that can only be accessed by the company that makes it vs. an open system that anyone can improve?

same here. just had to change cause my s22 charging port stopped working unless i put the cable in an exact way. otherwise, the phone was working fine. battery quality dipped a little but nothing where i needed a new phone. could have just deleted some apps.

i do admit the s25 ultra has a great battery and the camera is really good. your friend is not lying. but do you need it? no fucking way.

it is funny how cameras look super good and then you get a new phone and the camera looks super super good. like you think the camera is already at an insane level and it just gets better.

I’m in a iPhone 13 - likely will be for another year or 2. No idea what the current gen is and don’t care - this does what I need and holds charge decently. Screen intact - no reason to change.

I never quite got the need to upgrade to the “latest and greatest” - in fact, it’s quite opposite that commands a premium in certain circles I deal in.

For example - my pickup, got another offer the other day from a dealer while I was getting another vehicle looked at and had to drive back out to talk to the tech. 2021 Toyota - last of the prior generation - it’s relatively low tech by modern vehicle standards and has a fuel inefficient v8. I paid 53k new for it in 2021 - latest offer 60k and they’d likely list high 60s. Between the stupid price hikes, dwindling number of clean low miles used available and desirable lower tech - it commands a premium. You’ll see the same thing on many “pre-emissions” diesel trucks and tractors too.

Gun nuts are another weird lot - they will pay more for a used but clean model from the 60’s-70s than a modern gun under the mistaken belief this stuff was “made better”. Bullshit - the modern stuff is built with high grade wood stocks and by trained gunsmiths - the 60s-70s were assembled by a bunch of medium wage earners. But people remember stuff from their childhood and think it’s “special” and the new stuff is junk. Funny - I remember 50 years ago when Browning moved production to Japan - everyone said they were “junk” - now they command a premium for their higher quality standards.

Point is - 99% of what we “think” is better is pure hype and Internet experts. Same guys probably walked around saying various sportsbooks would never stiff and as solid as they come.

I also have a 2nd generation Tundra w/ 105K miles. Whenever I take it in for oil change or fluid flush, the dealer makes me an offer. They also call and send mailers asking for it. Just take care of it with routine maintenance and it will last "forever". I plan on keeping it until it reaches 250k+ miles or I give to my son in the will.

Dealers want them because they are so reliable. You can't find them on the secondary market without a big markup. If you find any that are cheap, there were likely in a significant accident.

IMO it is the best truck ever made. Reliability is top of the line. Gas mileage isn't as good as newer turbos but it will damn sure last a lot longer than the newer trucks being built.
