Seems like they’re touting him as the next great thing.

Would mean the Pirates have two of the best and youngest in the majors along with Skenes.

Pretty good list. Makes me look forward to baseball again.

Wait, we still have Altuve.... Or did they trade him away too..... :ROFLMAO:
My longtime buddy is huge Astros fan and knows a ton about their farm system. Studies it. Loves baseball.

This was his reply when I told him Astros only one of two teams with no guys in the top 100 prospect list.

“Bryce mathews is on the edge. Probably 101 lol. Cam smith would be top 40 but hes already in the majors due to a rapid ascent. Zach cole SHOULD be as he has tremendous potential but has risen so fast that no one noticed and hes with the team now so not technically a minor leaguer. Also ethan frey looks really good from lsu. Just starting so again under the radar. And of course xavier neyens who could wind up a superstar but dude is only like 18.”

“I think the astros having no up and coming guys is a bit overblown. That said, they could use more high end prospects”

I thought it was pretty good analysis

@Tanko the Astros are one of only two MLB teams with zero top-100 prospects.

Is the dynasty finally over for good??
Did you see the trouble Framber Valdez is having as a FA?
No teams will sign him. He wants a 5,6,7 year deal and I've read GMs are worried about his attitude.

One reporter pointed out the pitch he threw at Volpe to intentionally hit him as one example of what they are concerned about.

I forgot about that. He could definitely be feast or famine on the mound.

100% intentional

Seems to be the type of guy who goes downward fast if something is not perfect

I am and I do.
I love attending games as well (but not mid-summer - to damn hot).
How good was this Griffin kid in the draft two years ago?

Wonder why he didn’t go higher than ninth or 10th? Signability issues? Got a great signing bonus north of $6 million.

I think we need more than 98 plate appearances at AA before we can really know if he has a good chance at success

I was reading this stupid article earlier too - same guy was touting Travis Bazzanna now has him mid 20s while saying he will probably start this year - hit for good average and swat 20+ HRs and swipe a similar number of bases.

How many rookies do you think could hit .280 and 20/20 while playing average or better defense at 2B ? And somehow that’s “nothing special” in this guys opinion ??!?? Says all I need to know about his writing.

Not that this kid may not be something special or that Bazzanna is a sure fire ROY. What I am saying is the thing about generational talent is they only come along once a decade or so - you don’t get 4 or 5 every season.

We haven’t seen this kid even play above high A have we ? Big difference facing 19-20 year olds who can throw 95 and grown ass men who can throw upper 90s but also know how to make that ball drop and move while mixing in some 80s too. It’s real easy to look good when your talented beating the same type of pitcher every at bat - a lot tougher beating guys who come at you with vastly different styles game after game.
