He officially called 19 pitches that were outside the strike zone strikes. 85% rating for his performance last night. One of the worst so far this year by any umpire.
I saw that the umpire average is 94%. Much worse, but why are we settling for 94%? We're overdue for the computer to take over. You can keep a home plate umpire for plays at the plate, foul tips, HBP, etc. It might help the batters knowing that there is a universal strike zone.

Unions…
I've had to manage both types of work forces in various roles over the years. There are benefits and drawbacks on both sides but the biggest issue with a "bargain for" work place is that the worst performers in the bottom 5% absorb 95% of a companies time and resources to manage. You can't purge the low performers.

Why? The contracts make it impossible to elminate their position without cause (break the law or fail drug test).

So the worst of the worst are the ones typically protected by unions and are never removed from the work force (e.g. Angel Hernandez). Good performers don't need union protection nor would they be removed without cause.

It gets funnier and funnier. This dude has something on someone important.

Joe West says MLB gave Angel Hernandez a 96% grade after awful Phillies game

Fuking complete bullshit.

I wonder if Angel was just lying to West about his rating. He may not wanted to have looked as bad as he did. If MLB really did give him a 96% (I can't believe it), the system is rigged. He'll never be disciplined. Hell, he may be WS umpire at this rate.

What is their rating system if it is 96%? Not what you would expect to see when it was a primetime game and highlights seen by everyone
