Most likely you didn’t get enough sleep last night if you’re not feeling it today. I know for me when I have a bad gym day. It’s usually because of that reason.

I didn't work out Tuesday for that very reason, I was not rested.

Rest, at our age, is, or should be, a priority. The number one reason is that we want to avoid injury, but just as important is that out strength comes from the rest and recovery.

It's not the working our that makes me stronger, it's the rest and recovery that makes me stronger. For example, I didn't work out much for two weeks and came back stronger than ever.

I know it sounds a little funny, but if you think about it it does ring true. The strength comes from resting and recovering, not from constantly working out.

I can workout several days in a row and not advance, but when I take a couple of days off, I can advance the weights when I come back.

Yes indeed I have experienced the same kind of progress when I am sleeping a solid 6-8 hours no more or no less. Too much sleep just throws off my equilibrium.

What do you guys do on the days you have no energy to go to the gym ? As crazy as it sounds, I use to make an alcoholic beverage in the afternoon and it would help me get my ass to the gym. Although it didn’t really help my production level once I got there. A shitty workout is a lot better than not working out right lol.

Whiskey and Deadlifts!
You guys might be on to something here.
Complete a circuit, take a shot. Do it again, take a shot. Kind of like an incentive program.

I think I'm going to bring it up to my Freedom Fitness manager. Would probably generate more business. It would definitely loosen up some of the people who are such a$$holes at the gym.

I just go to the gym and am nearly always glad I did it when I'm done.
Definitely better to go with less than par energy than to not go I feel you. Also emotionally you will be in a better mood and potentially sleep better. All good things which will help you have clarity when you are handicapping the daily card the next day.

Elbow didn’t really heal so starting last week I stopped all working out and just ice it now. It’s a shame because once again, my diet was ramped up, and I was performing like a machine.

I figure I need at least two weeks, but I could still do elliptical and legs.

Except last Sunday, I broke a toe and possibly my foot.

Diet is already tuning down, so I think I’m going to be taking some steps backwards of the next week or two. I’ve already lost a few pounds and I was only getting up to about 136 to begin with. Algorithms say it’s all body fat, but I don’t really have anybody fat.

Fukkin pissed about it.

BMR was around 1490, but I was eating 3500 cal a day.

I haven’t even input the foods I’m taking pictures of this week because it’s so few. I’ll probably update the spreadsheet today. It’s going to be ugly.

Might actually start that weight gain journey thread after all.

Because, after all, I feel like I’ll be starting over.

I missed it. How did you hurt your elbow?
I've told you to give up the breakdancing?

I've told you to give up the breakdancing?

Just did something dumb with a kettle bell and gave myself instant tennis elbow.

almost had it healed until I chopped up something for a tuna salad. Then almost had it healed again and I smashed a black widow with a shovel.

Went from no pain to crazy pain for several days after it still hasn’t let up. I was doing a full upper body workout. Just not gripping the weights too much and while it didn’t hurt doing the work out. It never did get better.

So now I need to take time off, again.

I try not to pay too much attention to the day-to-day weight differences, but I weighed 136.7 on October 5 and the scale says I weigh 131.0 now.

Last time I took time off for the elbow I weighed about 135. Two days after I started working out again from that I lost 3 pounds, not sure why.

It’s taking me a month to get that wright back and I lost it all this week.

Again, the algorithm says body fat I’m losing, but I just don’t have that body fat.

Always weigh myself in the morning after I take a shit but before I eat breakfast, to reduce variables.

I’m not worried, but I might be starting over here.

Sorry to hear about your elbow, KVB.

Maybe you can use the injury to inspire yourself to do stuff like leg machines and core workouts that don't require your elbow. Either way, get well soon.

Yes, that was the plan. And it's just like you say, I was inspired to focus on core, elliptical, and legs, which can only be good.

Until I broke my toe and possibly foot last sunday.

Looks like basic leg lifts and planks for me for the next couple of weeks...lol.

I laugh, but it's only so funny.

don't worry once you've initially made gains, it is way way faster to regain to that set point.

sometimes I deload is also the impetus for a growth acceleration as well. there is a reason periodization is so effective for power lifters and weightlifters.
