First of all, don't most sane people carry renters or homeowners insurance?

Secondly, doesn't FEMA give people money.

Third, $50,000. These GoFundMe campaigns are out of control.

I saw one where a black chick wanted other people to pay for her mom's funeral.

Another one for a cat.

People don't want to work for a living but they'll post GoFundMe campaigns for themselves.

I've seen people who claim they are about to be homeless ask for a money but they won't take jobs that don't pay well or allow them to work from home.

Can't stand this liberal bullshit.

Can’t do GoFundMe.

It is simply a tool for the entitled and those who can’t manage cash for shit.

I need a new iPhone - please donate.

I lost my job and have no savings - please donate.

Go sit on the street with the rest of the panhandlers - quit sitting around on the library computer begging.

If you can manage to do a go fund me - you can manage to scour thrift shops and buy/resell to eBay/Poshmark.

Not GoFundMe but my parents loaned $20,000 to my niece's cousin and her fat Dominican Republic husband.

They bought a house and cars they can't afford. Take out pay day loans. Let her broke ass parents live there for free. Can't manage money.

And now they're not paying the money back on schedule.

If I see either of them, I'm lighting both of them up. Two fat f*** stupid idiots. If my parents die before the money is paid back, I'm personally collecting it myself.

And another story. My older brother's friend died in his 50's because he drank, smoked, and brawled himself to death.

Guy was a stud. Every woman wanted to f*** him. He had a college degree and got a job but quit because his female boss was sexually harassing him.

Started a landscaping business but could never show up on time so his partner bought him out and really ripped the guy off.

Was on SSI for the past couple of years.

His father did okay but was dying and his mother has no money. So my family donates to his funeral. Now his siblings could have easily paid but they asked for donations. Totally odd situation.

None of his siblings wanted to give the eulogy so my older brother did it. Again, WTF?

After all is said and done, his girlfriend's apartment burns down and she starts asking for donations.

My mom called me and said no more. Totally fucked up situation. How can people do things like that and not be embarrassed. His brother could have paid the funeral by himself.

I find that hard to believe. I have family members in Florida and they have not been dropped after numerous hurricanes.

Absolutely true.

Or they are facing big deductibles and exclusions for fire losses.

There are alternatives out there - but the cost swing wildly and it’s sometimes a scramble to place insurance.

Hurricanes are a different beast entirely - a hurricane hits it takes a 100 mile wide path along with it - fires are like tornadoes where the width is much smaller and may only go for a mile or 2 - but if your in that zone - everything is destroyed.

Unlike tornadoes though - fires are much more predictable as to WHERE the damage will occur - and with MUCH denser population bases than say tornado alley (and much costlier) - insurers are very hesitant to accept the risk. Way too easy to over extend and find yourself in a losing position with just a minor event.

Plus there is the extreme risk that the state may step in and force you into continuing coverage when you don’t want to write it. Imagine a book being told they cannot limit sharp action by a regulatory authority. Do you think books would remain open in those states ? No - they’d rather pass on states where profits are already tough rather than risk a bigger loss and having to cut profits on other states just to remain.

Once worked with someone who was a wildfire expert for an insurer. The offer they got 5 years ago to consult for a company in California was insane. But find someone in the industry who is both a consulting forester AND has a ton insurance designations. It’s an absolute unicorn of a person and when your talking a market as big as California - it made sense for their employer to pay for the best person. You’d be amazed at how bad some insurance companies are at assessing risk and how good the best ones are.

The companies you hear that are pulling out of the market/cancelling suck because they are so big and can’t properly rate risk. The ones who are growing are very picky about what they take for example - but are becoming highly profitable - so as a result will likely continue to have an appetite for more business even with big fires like this.

Pat Haven’t you heard the stories about what a huge coincidence the timing of it all is with insurance companies cancelling homeowners basically just before the fires?

Why just out of the blue?? 🤔

And it sounds like insurance for homeowners is going to be a problem for Californians in the future just like in Florida and time for the government to step in and stop companies from cherry picking who they will and will not cover

Lots of fake news. My older brother owns a million dollar condo on the water. He's never been dropped.

My parents own a condo in Florida as well.

Their friends owned a $3 million dollar condo in Naples.

Never dropped by their insurance companies.

Stop watching CNN.
