Very sad day for Giants fans and for MLB fans in general. Willie was a mainstay at the ballpark even after he retired. He may well have been the greatest player of all time because he could do it all. RIP to an absolute legend.

Very true. Father time caught up with him
They said he passed away peacefully so at least he didn't suffer. He was supposed to make the trip with the Giants to Birmingham when they take on the Cardinals in a special tribute to the Negro Leagues game later this week but they said that he would be unable to attend and he passed two days before they were set to honor him in Birmingham.

In all seriousness though, you could make a real case that Mays was the greatest player of all time.

Had all the tools. If not for the fact he played so many of his home games at the cavernous Polo Grounds could very well have been the home run champ all time

Forgot he also missed three prime years fighting in the Korean War.

Makes 660 homers even more amazing
