That's good, Fly. Based on experience, locals are impressed to hear foreigners speak their language. I know @quantumleap can relate to this situation as well.

Like fly says, it's a very difficult language to learn. One would have to be immersed into the culture to keep it fresh in your mind. Otherwise your likely to forget it.

The only way I'll learn Vietnamese is if I move there for an extended period of time, then I'll be happy to give it a try.

Brandon Ly Set to Join Công An Hà Nội Ahead of 2025–2026 V.League Season

Công An Hà Nội FC have successfully reached an agreement with Brandon Ly, a Vietnamese-Irish player currently playing for Burnley U21, paving the way for him to officially join the V.League 1 club before the 2025–2026 season.

Born in 2005, Brandon Ly stands at 1.75m and plays primarily as a defensive midfielder or right-back. He is of Vietnamese descent through his father and Irish through his mother, though he does not yet hold Vietnamese citizenship.

During the 2024–25 Premier League Cup, he featured for Burnley U21, gaining valuable experience in one of England’s top youth competitions.

If he performs well at Công An Hà Nội, the club is expected to support his naturalization process, potentially opening the door for him to represent the Vietnam national team in the future.
