My uncle fought in that war. He said the US never lost a major battle. He then said the politicians kept giving back the land that US soldiers fought and died for.

Hell yes he was bitter and he became an alcoholic because of it. That eventually lead to an early death for him.

I am friends with many Vets here and my favorite thing to do is discuss what happened with them. It is very interesting to say the least. This group that i know get together for coffee every Sunday and i often join them. The girl in the pictures, her dad and Uncles fought as well, they have pieces of a plane and scrap metal at their house, pretty crazy to see that. In Vung Tau and many other places in the south , there are many American men there that never left when the war was over. They married and had children. I have met three over the years and all 3 of them have never been back, they just stayed here and love the life here.

President Hồ Chí Minh, statues all over the country. Not only was he a great president and one of the most important figures of the 20th century. He loved to gamble on sports and cards. He was a big timer in gambling in Boston and New York and in France. A very well educated human being.

V league started yesterday in Vietnam. Today Hải Phòng has their first game at home today. This is the current scene here. I’m at the game. This city is a port city and has the most mafia in all of Việt Nam. People from here don’t like people from Hà Nội and people from Hà Nội don’t like people from Hải Phòng. It’s about 80 minutes from me. Im wearing my Hà Nội FC shirt and people are talking shit and giving me dirty looks. This was their caravan at 3pm today and now there are fires everywhere in the streets getting ready for the start.

A +4000 hit today in V league during a live, unreal , when they were down 2-0 on Pinnacle the draw got up to +4000 and they scored twice in a short amount of time, crazy!!

The sex industry is huge here and it varies for the quality and place. There are extremely nice places to go to, places and experiences that in the western countries do not exist. Sex is as cheap as $9 to in the tens of thousands. There is a lot of very wealthy Vietnamese that like actresses and beauty queens and will pay thousands for them. But on average $20-30 for something decent.
These rich guys were paying 18-30k for one shot. Barber shops, cafes, KTV's, 100s of different places you can get some if you are into that.

Hanoi authorities last year identified more than 19,500 businesses offering so-called "sensitive" services. Most of them are registered as hair salons, bars or massage parlors but also provide illegal sex services.

Not to get off point of this awesome thread but figured it would be worth a reply since you talked about this.

Take the time to watch Ken Burns 10-part documentary on The Vietnam War. Many of the vets on there talk about the same thing. How the strategy made no sense. Unlike other wars (ww1 and 2, etc) where we would have a goal of pushing the enemy back and fight to gain land and territory, in Vietnam they would fight to gain a hill near the Demilitarized Zone, for example, lose dozens of marines with hundreds injured over a 2-3 day span. Win the battle and take the hill. Only to leave it later that afternoon or the next day never to return again. Was demoralizing and didn’t make sense .

also soldiers many felt we were on the wrong side in the war. The south government was the one that was corrupt no matter who was in power. The north just wanted their independence.

Excellent documentary. One of the best I’ve ever seen:

I’ve seen it twice and I watched it with some vets here. It is so well done. That’s why there is still animosity with the south and north today. Especially the Vietnamese that left for America. They can’t have a a reasonable conversation about here. Life here is great. The people from the north are a better quality of person. I was with my buddies today drinking tea talking about the war. Their viewpoint is very different and they also talk about the war with China. All these countries , France , America etc try to control them and get ran out. My Vietcong buddies are very interesting to talk to. I’m actually trying to get one I play pool with to introduce me to his daughter , hahaaha

Thanks for the recommendation I didn’t know that side of the war story and it seems very interesting regarding our American history.

It is really good and very well done, I am a big fan of it. Keep in mind it is the American perspective of the war but it is the best thing I have ever seen regarding the war. The girl you have seen me with in the pics, her dad is a Viet Cong and has a completely different view of it as well as the rest of people here, haha, He is missing a few fingers from the war....you should hear them talk about the Sino war as well.
