100s of lakes here. People fishing all day and night.
Wow! The building is not dangerous during earthquakes, Fly?

So you continue to pay for this apartment during the time you're in the US?

Yes, I am never giving it up, it was empty when I was gone. but my main came in still. , unless the owner sells it. I wanted to buy it but listen to this , pretty crazy what is happening in Viet Nam. So billions of dollars is flooding in the country for foreign investments. All the high rise apartment buildings have lots of foreign owners but the owners live outside of the country. They have buying tours in Vietnam where people from Taiwan, Singapore , South Korea, Japan and people buy apartment projects being built but they are sold at a much higher price than Vietnamese or the market but they still buy it. So my apartment the owner bought it for much higher than it is worth. He will probably never see a return, well maybe in a long time but who knows. So all the foreign investors are paying a lot more than what they are worth, and I can only buy new from a developer or from a foreigner. Foreigners can't buy from Vietnamese.

I'm more surprised that foreigners can buy and own property there, I guess that's the reason why the prices are higher for them because you need to pass through a 3rd party.

They can own apartments but not houses. And the apartments have a 50 year lease which can be renewed. But I can only buy new from the developer or a used one that a foreigner is selling. I can't buy from a Vietnamese. If I buy and sell it , I can sell it to a foreigner or Vietnamese and if a Vietnamese the 50 year lease gets removed.

For example, I live here and know what is happening. I can buy lets say an apartment for 135k with me being here and knowing the market and having some insights.. a tour group will come here and be sold the same apartment for 180k.

I'm glad you already know the process and the market. No one can fool you there anymore.

Smart! The maintenance of the house/apartment alone is already pricey.
Has nothing to do with that at all, I would love to buy here but the neighbors can ruin it for you. I have had to move a few times before. One time it got pretty ugly and some shit happened. I went completely off.... For the last 4 years, I have had it almost perfect. There are 10 apartments on each floor and I regulate my floor but try to do it nice. But as I said the last 4 years has been great... Everyone keeps their doors shut but most floors i would say 7 out of the 10 apartments have their doors open all day and their noise funnels into your place. I have had it out with some neighbors, I have literally shut their door, slammed their door etc... your neighbors can ruin it for you here and no way to escape it, that is the only reason I won't buy. Most Vietnamese live their life with their door open and you hear all the noise... but the last 4 years I have had peace.

OMG! I also hate that kind of attitude. I think it's very Asian to leave their apartment doors open even when their music reaches the roof of another apartment. Or singing their loud Karaoke. No bueno.

They look at me like I am crazy when I tell them to shut the door. I have had some very crazy, threatening, a little violence, sabotaging etc etc, it doesn't really go on in China and not much in Thailand or Cambodia, not sure about Laos, but it is a normal thing here. I even explained to management what are the doors for? They said it is up to the owner if they want to keep their door open or not, I responded, not on my floor, haha, I even have had shit about one night years ago in a facebook group about me in my old building, it got pretty bad. I said why did they build the apartments with doors at all? haha
