The sensation that feels like a bug is crawling on your leg but nothing is there is known as formication. This is a type of paresthesia—an abnormal skin sensation such as tingling, itching, or pins and needles, which occurs without a physical cause. Formication is specifically the feeling of insects crawling on or under your skin, even though there are no bugs present.

Common causes of formication include:

  • Medical conditions: Parkinson’s disease, fibromyalgia, diabetes, neuropathy, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, thyroid disorders, and some infections.
  • Mental health conditions: Anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), psychosis, and other psychiatric disorders.
  • Medication side effects: Some prescription drugs can trigger these sensations.
  • Substance use or withdrawal: Cocaine, methamphetamines, alcohol, and opioid withdrawal are known triggers.
  • Hormonal changes: Menopause can also cause formication.
Why does this happen?
Your brain sometimes misinterprets nerve signals from your skin, creating a false sensation of crawling. This can happen randomly, but if it becomes frequent or distressing, it may indicate an underlying medical or psychological issue.

What should you do?

  • If this sensation is occasional and mild, it’s usually not a cause for concern.
  • If it is persistent, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms (like itching, pain, or skin changes), or if you have a history of mental health or neurological issues, you should consult a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.
Important: Avoid excessive scratching, as this can damage your skin and lead to infection.

Basically, you're going through Cocaine withdrawal 🤣😂🤣

Just ignore it KR.... You'll know when its a real bug when it bites you, gets infected, and they cut your leg off.... Then it was real.

Also, I'd accuse you of day-drinking but its already after 3:00 so....

Damn! Never considered that. After almost 40 years too. 😟
