Agreed. Hard to tell but when he was shot he clearly dropped something to the ground.
Police likely thought it was a weapon. If it was, police were justified in shooting him. If it wasn't a gun --> suicide by cop w/ an audience.

Whether the cops were right or wong in pulling their guns out on the guy, you have to be smart. When 4-5 cops draw down on you, WTF you think you're going to do? Win a gun fight? Must be some mental issues going on. Very unfortunate.
