Lived in New England area most of my life. When I travel I always get " where the hell are you from ?" Never thought I had a strong accent. Anybody else get guff over how they sound.?
So... you have a Boston type accent KR.... Where they say "warsh" instead of wash or is it more of a Boston Southie type accent?

I've lived in Texas almost my entire adult life but I grew up in Iowa so I have no accent.

I guess I have a Bahston accent I'm told. Not sure what a Boston Southie accent sounds like. Didn't realize there was a difference. I also have a tendency to use some British phrases as I have family from there.

People tell me I sound like I’m from New Jersey, but never even step foot over there in my life. When I was growing up from age 12-15, I had a handful of Italian friends in my neighborhood who had a very strong influence on me. So I guess that’s where it stems from.

(No I don’t really sound like that. It’s kinda exaggerated lol.)

Now New Yorkers definitely have a distinct accent. Sorry but I'd shoot myself if I talked like that. :suicide

I grew up in MA, but don't have an accent... A couple of years ago I was playing poker in Seabrook with a townie who asked me if I was from the South. He said he never heard anyone who spoke with an accent like mine before.:lmao:

Yes it's funny I get comments from people in N.H. and Connecticut. I'm from MA. Can't be that much difference in our speech can there?

They notice it, not make fun of it.

Tell you a quick story.

Back in the day when Ebay was one of the hottest things going, my buddy bought a boat from the site.

Only thing was, it was in Key Largo, Florida. He had to go down to get it.

Long story short, he calls and asks me to take a ride with him to pick up this boat.

Sure, no problem. We get down to Key Largo and pick up this fukkin boat and in our way back we cross over from Florida into Georgia.

At this point, I'm fukkin starving. I say bro, take the next exit you see and find us a place to eat.

So he gets off the next exit he sees and promptly gets fukkin lost in God knows where Georgia.

Amazingly, we run into a good place, I don't want to call it a diner but maybe it was but not like the ones we have here.

So we go in and sit down and we're talking and the waitress is staring at us while we talk.

So she comes walking over and looks me in the face and says where y'all from in a thick southern accent. White girl, too.

I look at her and say ma'am, I'm from the south.

She gets this incredulous look on her face and says No you're not! What part of the south are y'all from?

I say ma'am, we're from the southern part of Philadelphia.

She busts out laughing.

So, to answer your question, yes folks do notice my accent.
