It’s still there for many of the kids - you just need to look outside of the mainstream media highlights.

There are still stories out there of kids who play for love of the sport and realize once college is over - it’s off to a career and not one in the NFL.

Even in D1 - you have teams like UNLV and Indiana who are beating the odds and succeeding despite lesser talent.

I think we are in a transition period between the way things were for 80 years (prior to NIL) to where we are headed (pro team like structures at college level).

Some coaches have already commented that with the implementation of NIL, we need to organize college sports like the pros.

• Have a GM that does all the negotiating with the players so coaches just coach
• Have contracts for players to sign indicating NIL $ and years of "service" at the school
• Implement bonuses for player performance just like coaches get bonuses for making the playoffs.
• Etc...

Once we get to a more organized system, there will definitely be some consolidation or tiers of teams like a Premier, Championship, League 1 is setup in English soccer.

Its inevitable.

I love it my Canes have a chance this year with this new 12 team format playoffs. Without the portal/NIL Miami wouldn’t have a 1st round draft qb right now.

This. Georgia - 21 against FSU last year when half of Florida State's team opted out. Try - 50.

I would hope playing for a national title would entice everyone to suit up.

I hate when those SOBs sit out their bowl games because they are going pro. It makes them impossible to cap.
