A judge isn't going to keep charges around just because he was a Trump appointee and this is Joe Biden's son

Oh yeah. I agree. Most judges (excl Aileen Cannon) follow the law regardless of who appointed them.

But this was a US Attorney that came up with plea deal. I can imagine a judge will just sign off on it.

They said the gun charges would likely be dismissed due to how the US attorney's have handled similar cases in the past.

The gun charges only were filed because there is a statute that states if you are a drug addict, you can't have a gun. That's what he was charged with. It's only been loosely enforced because of two issues:

1. proving someone is an addict as opposed to just a user is a stretch.
2. the law would be tough to implement due to how prevalent weed is in society combined with gun ownership. Tens of thousands could be arrested under the law -> not going to happen.
