Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins died Saturday morning after he was struck by a dump truck while he was walking on a South Florida highway. Haskins was 24 years old.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Lt. Indiana Miranda confirmed the accident on westbound Interstate 595. Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Miranda didn't say why Haskins was on the highway. The accident caused the highway to be shut down for several hours.

"He was just walking on the highway and got hit," Miranda told The Associated Press.

So sorry you had to see that Le. traumatic indeed. Florida drivers are terrible. I remember a crazy accident I seen happening driving home from a 13 hour shift. On turnpike SUV just rolling over and over after a tractor trailer side swiped them pushing them into middle grass section. Everything was super slow mo. Pulled over running to scene to help car upside down filled with family and dogs going on vacation to Disney. So sad. Luckily professional help got there quick because people thought they were helping but could of done more damage pulling at peoples necks to pull them out.

I witnessed a same type of situation about 10 years ago in Miami. Was going on a cruise and the traffic to the port was at a crawl. Drove past a yellow tarped object. Found out later that someone got hit. I think it was an NBA player driving a Bently that hit a pedestrian.

dude soflo is such a dangerous place to drive in, especially Miami. i drove down there yesterday evening to take my bf and grandma to the airport, there were 2 dodge's trying to cut in and out of traffic, literally going no where but as fast as they can? an accident waiting to happen.

I get that and it’s a sad story, but using his cel phone and calling AAA from a safer location is what most would do. Instead of playing dodge ‘‘em in the dark on busy interstate, something doesn’t add up. Was he thinking like Patches O’Houlihan, if you can dodge busy interstate traffic in the dark, you can dodge 300 lb linemen?
