Potential deal in the works....

:checkmark Astros send Framber Valdez to the Yankes
:checkmark Yankees give up outfielder Everson Pereira and pitcher Clayton Beeter.

Valdez becomes free agent at end of the year and will likely see ~$70M contract offers.

IMO this would be a big hit to the Stros playoff chances. Valdez is one of their best starters and is their only Southpaw in the rotation. Of course the Yankees need another starter with Cole and Gil out of the lineups.

Astros playing much better last 15
IDK...

  • The only thing the Astros are in top 5 is Relief Pitching.
  • Batting is at or just below league average. This has really hurt them this year. They used to be quite the offensive machine.
  • Starting pitching is OK with Brown and Valdez but the rest of the rotations (Wesniski, Blanco, Gusto) not too good.
If they give up Valdez, combined with thier mediocre batting performance, I don't think they will make the playoffs.

Why Astros considering this trade if it's not gonna help them? They don't want to pay Valdez anymore?
It could be the potential $70M contract they would have to cough up next year.
It seems the Astros are going back to their old ways (scrimping on $ and not keeping big names).

Recently "gave up" on:
Bregman
Tucker
Neris (not a big name but I liked him)

The only player they've resigned for $ is Altuve and Pena but the rest have been lesser "stars".

Definitely don’t think Astros are World Series contenders this year

If they can do something that can help them next 3-4 years I’d think about doing it
