Deferred salaries are allowing them to mock the salary cap.
They now have over $1B in deferred money.

I foresee MLB adjusting their cap process.

I think the rules require that they show they have the money set-aside or at least can show they have enough set aside such that it will "grow" and cover the future payments. But, IMO this is funny money and bending the salary cap rules to the limits.

The Dodgers don't care they are within the rules so they're going to spend because they got it. I'm not sure they're ruining baseball but it does make it easy to hate the Dodgers because they get whoever they want while other teams can't spend that kind of money.

It's slimy for sure but smart on their part.

It's for sure going to bite them in the ass when it comes time to pay up, though.
It would, if contracts were denominated in real currency (bitcoin). Since it's in dollars, they're getting a really good deal. Minimum salary will be $100/hour by 20246. Los Angeles real estate will cost 5x-10x by 2046 in dollars compared to 2024.

Simple math.

It’s just how you account for it,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Tuesday at a news conference to introduce Snell. “You have to fund a lot of it right now, and having that money go to work for you, we have — a lot of our ownership group are from financial background and can have that money going to work right now, and just making it — not something that sneaks up on us. We’re not going to wake up in 2035 and (say): ‘Oh my God, that’s right. We have this money due.’ We’ll plan for it along the way.”

Lets try to recapure all the Dodgers signings (re-signings) this off-season....
They just signed Kirby Yates (former Rangers reliever).

Tanner Scott (reliever) 4 yr $72M
Kirby Yates ( reliever from Rangers) 1 yr $13M
Blake Treinen (reliever) Re-signed
Roki Sasaki (starting pitcher)
Blake Snell
Hyeseong Kim
Teoscar hernandez
Mike Conforto

They should be the best team in baseball by quite a margin. Now can they perform up to the price tag?
