Well, it didn't happen today. The surgeon said my PSA number was too high so I have to get a biopsy of the prostate. I wish they would have just canceled the appointment instead of getting me loopy AF on this Valium and having to go to the office and back.
So he said I could get a vasectomy after the biopsy. I'll fill you in on the biopsy results.
Well I had my biopsy today. It wasn't bad at all.
For the squeamish, don't continue reading.
They stuck a ultrasound probe up my ass so they could tell where to take the 12 samples from my prostate. I expected to feel a needle prick like the Novacaine at the dentist but I didn't feel anything.
So the doc points the sample collector at the location to take the sample and the medical assistant pulls the trigger on the gun. To be quite honest, all but one kind of tickled. One kind of stung but it wasn't too bad. All in all, it was almost a painless experience.
I was told to take it easy this weekend and be a couch potato. I told the doc I wouldn't do any yard work. The doc also said there may be blood in my urine for a few days and in my semen for a few weeks. I also have to take antibiotics for 3 days total.
Oh, the doc also said my prostate was enlarged which I knew from a CT scan a few months ago. He said typically a large prostate means the PSA numbers aren't cancer.
There's also a condition called BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) which can cause an enlarged prostate. I'm hoping that's the case because of the first word in the phrase: benign.
