I’m not near as involved with it anymore either

But as mentioned earlier I prefer limited auto & game worn inserts

I always thought the jersey/patch cards could be so much more

They have jersey cards that will say on the back “ you have received a game worn jersey piece worn by Tom Brady in an actual game” numbered 1 of 10

But that is vague

They could take it to the next level and take them from big games such as “you have received a game worn jersey card worn by Tom Brady against the Buffalo Bills in week 13 2024. Brady threw for 394 yard with 4 passing TDs”

Agreed would have made collecting them so much more interesting and actually worth chasing!

Nowadays they went the other route by dramatically pushing up print runs on everything to push profits up as quickly as possible while the iron is hot.

They tried this years ago and the bottom dropped completely out of the hobby, wouldn't be shocked to see that happen again sooner than later.

My son & his partners run a legit shop you have to be a verified buyer to even view their auctions. “FreshWaxBreaks” from WhatNot app is the name. They have a 4.9 rating out of 5.

There are plenty of people doing it the right way on the various platforms sadly often pushed toward the back by the bands of scammers.

Would be nice to see it get cleaned up but I am extremely doubtful. I hope their business continues to grow - love seeing the people doing it the right way climbing to the top.

Yes that’s how I raised him, or he would not be working there. He’s a good kid, I instilled morals & values in him at an early age. He will be much more successful than his dad.

What recourse do people have if these guys scam??

Like the guy who refunded the cash and kept the $20k 1/1 card??

Probably none

I’m sure a lot of the folks that buy in are in different states, etc

But you’d make much more long term building up good reviews and a good reputation and not pulling any scams

I’m sure a lot of these scammers just make a new name and start the scam all over again

Kind of like scam sportsbooks/PPH

Yes. Late 80s early 90s big card boom when I was a kid

Went to shows, etc. sold my collection when I went off to college for about $2k

turned out a lot of those cards - even the high dollar ones that were so coveted in that era - were mass produced. Fleer, Topps, Donruss. Worth literally pennies nowadays

Hold on to them - someday the market will realize that 87/88 Fleer press run was a small percentage of the 86/87 run. Of course everyone wants “rookies” - but those 2nd years are like 5x harder to find.

I’ve got one somewhere - just have to dig through the storage unit to find it. From memory it’s pretty nicely centered too - if I find it - will probably be the only card I ever send in for grading if it looks as good as I remember.

I remember guys telling me in the mid 90s to buy the absolute best looking 70s cards I could find. We all knew the 50s/early 60s stuff was valuable - but stuff from the 70s it just seemed like people paid the same for a slightly off center/sun faded or soft cornered example as they did for a “10”. Things like those chipped up edged ‘71 and ‘75 Topps and perfectly centered Ozzie Smith rookies didn’t command a significant premium then. Now try and find a 9 or 10 grade Nolan Ryan from the era or a highly graded rookie and tell me the premium difference. Toss in non smudged Jack Morris and Molitor/Trammel rookies in that list too. Lots of them “survived” - but finding a perfect example is a lot different than finding a survivor.
Yes definitely get Jordan's graded.

89-90 Pro Set & Score Football was ridiculous

So much was produce/printed we could use as toilet paper for 10yrs

Yea - but remember 1989 Score was pretty limited.

When time came for orders - EVERYONE bought 3x what they needed - thinking they would get maybe a 5th of their request. Over request hoping to secure an allocation - oops.

1990 Score baseball was way overproduced too - too bad as it was a nice clean design. Still find 1999 baseball wax for less than they sold for in 1990. Ditto 1988 stuff.

I’m suprised global warming wasn’t caused by the sports card industry in 1990 honestly the amount of trees we cut down. Between the baseball from everyone, the football over run and 1990 Hoops and Skybox - there literally had to be 40 boxes of each made per person in the hobby. 1990 was a big year for me - traded a ‘54 Aaron for 2 UD sets and a Griffey Fleer rookie - that Aaron probably would only grade a 1.5 on PSA now….but man if I still had those UD sets - I’d be rich.🤑

Yeah Wild Card company is good at that

Purple border or background numbered to 10 and then also the same thing for several other colors

Same card just that difference

Wild card - are they related to the original Wild Card out of Hamilton, Ohio.

Remember them - made college football/baseball sets around 1990. You could get a card with 5/10/100/1k - mail a 100 and they send you 100 singles or vice versa.

I know Larry Johnson/Augmon were the big basketball rookies - think Favre was in the football. Jesus - that place was a joke. You have no idea how much product was sold out the back door of the printing press at that place and Cincy area card shows.

Yes those were a pretty cool gimmick at the time

I assume it’s the same company but they were quiet for a long

Some of you may remember this but the era I referenced late 80s I remember the card shop having the wax packs of 84 Donnrus you could buy

Mattingly rookie was the gem

Then the Canseso when he had the 40/40 year and after that McGwire Olympic card were ones I remember being hot in that era

And of course Griffey
