you keep all or a certain number of players from year to to year. so if you hit on a cheap rookie , you might have that player on your roster for 5+ years leading you to a long term advantage.

think along the lines of drafting Justin Jefferson in salary cap his rookie year for a few bucks and having him as a centerpiece of your roster
