It's a slow morning so I just want to share this after reading @flyingillini's post on that YouTuber who died in a motorcycle accident. So, I just purchased a Honda Elite 125 scooter, still waiting for the permanent plate number and haven't had the chance to drive it yet on the highway, aside from a few hrs of practice over the weekend. Uber rides are getting too expensive, especially on holiday season, and my main purpose is to only use it to go to the office. I just purchased this protective gears like the jacket, gloves and knee pad and my question is.. How do all of you feel if you see drivers wearing gear but driving a scooter?

Also, FYI CR is one of the countries with the highest mortality rate from motorcycle accidents, that's why some of the people I know here are afraid for me.

Costa Rica: Road Safety Country Profile 2023

"Motorcyclists account for most of the increase in road deaths, with the number of motorcyclists dying in a crash rising by 55.7%"

Good luck Genie. I personally don’t like them but I have a bit of ADD so I’d be afraid I would lose my train of thought when I was supposed to be paying attention.

And it’s cliche but you never can tell what the other driver is going to do. On the way home from picking up my godson from kindergarten the other day this kid nearly hit us in the rear of the vehicle by blowing through a four-way stop.

Have to drive very defensively in general but especially so on a motorcycle or scooter.

Thank you, Jay.

I know I will be a very responsible driver, but si.. There are going to be a lot of bad/careless drivers out there.

I love motorcycles but there's one problem. First off I'm a speed demon not good for my life. Second I want to emulate Evil Knievel riding.

Wear the gear. Always be safe. Wear a helmet.
Thanks, DDD.

I'm glad you know your weakness and how to stay away from it, Pipe.

I just do those things at 2 am on I -25 when nobody is on the road. Just me the highway and my bike. There's a place and time for speed and stunts. But anything can happen on any day. For example. The other day around 2 am I was riding through the mountains with three other friends in my car. And it was really really dark through there. Nobody around on that road in certain spots you can see not so dark I was doing well over 100mph through there in the car. Lo and behold I'm telling my friends you have to watch for deer in the dark spots here. Guess what I hit?

Anyways lucky for me I was doing 40 mph through dark spots. The deer bounced off my bumper went back the way he came. Not a fuckin scratch on my car. God is good. 🙏

God loves you, Pipe. 🙏

Those are the kind of surprises I wouldn't want to encounter. One of my friend's sisters, driving a motorcycle died last yr when she hit a stray dog, and yes, very common in PH not to wear protective gear.

I'm so blessed 🙏. My friends were like man that messed up the car. I was like nah it wasn't that hard of a hit. I waited until I got back in town. Pulled into the gas station and nada. 😉

Si... but I mean, even if it messed up the car, I would be fine about it. That stuff can just be replaced, but life?? We only have 1 precious life.🙏

Yeah but at 40mph that deer wouldn't kill us. At 100 mph anything is possible and he or she is definitely hitting the windshield at least.

It’s better to be safe than sorry! If you take one wrong fall and hit your head, you can be in a world of trouble.
Always gear up Genie. We don't want you getting hurt.
And who cares what other drivers think about you getting "geared up". Be safe.
Thanks, Bob and Tank.

Si, maybe I am overthinking what other riders or my colleagues are going to say when they see me with gears on a scooter haha. But si.. I have only one life and a family that cares, so I will focus on my safety instead. 🙏
