Solid advice - and stay the hell out of restaurants (not just fast food places) and steer clear of pre packed stuff.

Amazing how much better you will feel eating simpler and avoiding the junk.

Went from a blood sugar in the 300s to one regularly in the low 100s and have cut my meds in half just a month off the stuff. Watch the sodium too - salt as bad as sugar.

Meat is fine in reasonable amounts - steaks - but local from a butcher and grill yourself - taste better and much better for you.

Booze - drink in moderation.

Nothing wrong with enjoying life - but if your drinking 8-12 beers a day every weekend even - it’s going to catch up to you.

Fatty foods and sodium - these are the 2 things I also need to work out.

Everyone is different on their transition to eating healthy.

Bad food is OK in moderation and gradually transitioning to something better is more likely to lead to long-term success for most.

I had a doctor tell me... 6 days a week eat healthy, just like you guys are saying. On the 7th day, take a break and eat whatever the hell you want. Eat heatlhy or don't on that day. He said, one day a week won't ruin your diet and it will always give you something to look forward to if always eating healthy is a chore. He said, eventually, you'll forgo that 7th days of bad food as you get used to not having it 85% of the time.

A lot of people turn to healthy diets and go cold turkey on the "bad-food". Most fall off the "eating healthy wagon" because they start to dabble in the bad food a little and it gradually become their standard routine again.

Plan for 1 day a week to eat bad and stick to that. If you plan for it, you're more likely to be successful and ween yourself off the bad stuff.

You would be surprised at how affordable it is to eat semi healthy - rice (cheap) - turkey (less than beef) - whole grain bread not much more.

Along with that is generally smaller portion sizes - and ditching the soda/booze.

Then there are the “healthy” QSR/fast food - Panera and their salads are beyond loaded with junk - ditto their fruit drinks and sugar. Wendy’s very tricky too - just because it’s a salad - loaded with dressing/croutons doesn’t make it “healthy”.

For me it’s been more about embracing the change in eating at home - move away from snacks and actually fixing a lunch for example and breakfast. Also being off the road now means no more lunches/dinners out nightly - would be common for us to take meal allowance and hit someplace like Outback/Red Lobster when on the road - hang out together after a long day and good meal. Those days are over.

Stay away from processed meat is probably better advice. Even the saturated fat in meat can be useful.

Nothing wrong with meat if you are otherwise healthy. Some tolerate the carnivore diet, but that's probably not a good idea if you have other negative cordiovascular risk factors.
