I stayed on Mactan Island for a few days when I was there in Cebu last year. The odd thing is that they also have a statue of Magellan there as well. Magellan and Lapu-Lapu had a battle where Magellan lost his life.

I guess the Spanish eventually conquered the Philippines and affected its country in some good ways so I think the citizens do have some good feelings toward the Spanish.
Indeed. Also known as the Battle of Mactan!

It's very nice. Hopefully, they could preserve those green trees and control the construction of buildings near the shore.
That's private property. It's the Tambuli Resort. As long as people keep paying to stay there the resort will keep those trees. They were building a new tower (away from the shore) when I stayed there so they must be doing well as far as people wanting to stay there. They want to preserve the shoreline as well as a part of drawing people who want to stay there. It's right on the sea.

I paid $85 a night. What a bargain.
